About the area

The North West Tasmania region comprises the whole of the North West, including the North West Coast and the northern reaches of the West Coast. It includes town such as Devonport, Burnie, Penguin and Stanley, all of which sit below the Bass Strait which separates Tasmania from Australia. The population of the region sits at approximately 115,000.

The region is characterised by it's rugged beauty, from coastlines to agricultural lands. There is an ongoing tradition of agriculture that's evident in the rich red soils and patchwork fields, the ideal growing conditions means the region is a large producer of vegetable, grains, livestock, wines and whiskey. It is a key gateway for the Spirit of Tasmania, which docks in the port of Devonport.
