Skip Bin Day – Gagebrook

The purpose of the day was to support community education around the issue of recycling while providing an opportunity for people to dispose of rubbish locally. This was promoted as a one day only offer through fliers in local business and through Facebook. We allowed for people to gather their rubbish over the weekend by starting our promotion on Thursday with pick up day on Tuesday. We were clear on what items we would take – hard waste only, and this was well received on the day with only one person bring something on our will not take list, but happy to take it away and promised to dispose of it correctly.

Twenty three people took advantage of the skip bins with many of these returning for a second load and in one case a third. The Bridgewater/ Gagebrook Clean Up Group were present for the whole day and lent a hand to load rubbish into the skip bins while providing information about recycling options. By the end of the day we had filled our two skip bins with everything from sofas to shoes.

We received very positive comments from all the people who used the bin and others who were passing by.
